Brachioplasty surgery, commonly referred to as Arm Lift surgery, is a cosmetic surgery that removes excess skin from the arms.
The goal of the procedure is to achieve a tight, flattering arm size and shape. It is very common for the skin on the arms to stretch out and become more lax with age. The arms are also a common place where people gain weight. Once they lose this weight however, the skin does not re-tighten back to its old position. Instead, it remains loose and stretched. While we offer non-surgical treatments like Profound Radiofrequency Microneedling to help patients achieve a moderate amount of skin tightening, if your arms flap or your underarms sag, Arm Lift surgery will be the most effective solution to your issue.
Dr. Azar often combines arm lift surgery with liposuction. Liposuction enables him to gently extract stubborn fat stores so that you enjoy the smoothest, healthiest arm contours possible! His careful techniques achieve a safe procedure with beautiful, natural-looking results. Most patients are back to work within two weeks of their procedure and are ready to show off their fully healed arms within two to three months! You can look forward to slimmer, more attractive arms for years to come

We want you to leave Azar Plastic Surgery feeling well-informed and in control of your decision.
Dr. Azar will take you through the steps of the procedure and let you know what to expect during the weeks following an arm lift. Dr. Azar custom-tailors every procedure to the goals of his patients and will take time to learn your goals in order to make sure he will be accomplishing your desired results. Your consultation is Dr. Azar's chance to assess your candidacy for the procedure. Your health is important to us: in order to make sure brachioplasty is the right choice for you , he will perform a physical examination of your arms. He will also need to assess your health history, current medication use, and current supplement use. If you have a concern or particular health limitation, please share this information during this private meeting.
You will receive personalized instructions to help you prepare for your brachioplasty surgery. Following these instructions will set you up for a smooth procedure and a comfortable, convenient recovery. In general, we instruct our arm lift patients to discontinue use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen and naproxen. We also recommend that patients stop using anti-inflammatory supplements two weeks prior to their surgery. These supplements include vitamin E, turmeric, garlic, and fish oil supplements.
Depending on the scale of your procedure, brachioplasty takes one to three hours to perform. Arm lift patients will receive their surgery under general anesthesia. In order to perform brachioplasty, Dr. Azar will make a single incision. The incision technique that Dr. Azar will use to remove and tighten your excess arm skin will depend on the amount of skin that will need to be addressed.
He will use one of three arm lift techniques:
Incision Along the Inner Arm. This incision is made from the elbow to the armpit. If you have a larger amount of tissue to address, this may be Dr. Azar's preferred technique.
Incision Along the Back of the Arm. This incision is made from the elbow to the armpit, but along the back of the arms. This method is highly effective in cases where there is a significant amount of fat and skin on the upper arm.
Incision Along the Armpit. If there is a minimal amount of tissue to remove, an incision in the armpit may be all that is required to restore your smooth, healthy arm contours!
If you have stubborn arm fat, in addition to your loose skin, Dr. Azar may also recommend incorporating liposuction into your procedure. Liposuction only requires a slim cannula and tumescent fluid to perform. The tumescent fluid will be injected just beneath the skin, where it will be given time to take effect. Tumescent fluid will constrict blood vessels in the area and cause the fat cells to swell. This makes them much easier to visualize and gently extract from the body. Dr. Azar performs liposuction like an artist sculpting clay: he will not only slim down your arms, he will also achieve a contour that looks natural and complements the natural beauty of your figure. Once the excess skin has been removed and the desired arm size and shape has been achieved, the skin on your arms will be laid in a tight contour . The incision will be closed with dissolvable sutures. Drains may be placed to allow the removal of excess fluids.
Your arms will be bandaged following your procedure. Any post-procedure discomfort will be addressed with prescribed medication. Your arms will be swollen following your brachioplasty, but you will immediately notice an improvement in the size and shape of your arms! Your drains will be removed. You will be able to return to work within two weeks of your arm lift.
Avoid heavy lifting or raising your arms above your head for at least fourteen days. If you have small children, we recommend that you seek assistance with them during the first few weeks of your recovery. If you work a physically-demanding job, you may need to take a month or more of downtime. Dr. Azar will give you a sense of what to expect from your recovery during your private consultation. You will return for a follow-up appointment within a few days of your arm surgery.
